The water in the aquarium looks as it did before, only this time there is a blue and orange fish swimming along the front glass. "I'm so sorry for your loss." He looks genuinely sad, and from what you've seen he wears his emotions on his features. Myst shrugs, "Thank Deep Sashelas, I just found you near the beach and revived you." You observe that Myst has Yoseph's undivided attention while she is present, while you have Myst's undivided attention.
After Myst takes her leave again, Yoseph starts to tinker around with last minute details around the room before the dinner service. "As I was saying? Oh yes. As to work, that depends on your skill set. You have the look of an adventurer about you, so perhaps the Adventurer's Guild has something for you? If you are able to make use of the weave, the Mage's Guild might be the place for you." He stops to polish something that didn't need polishing before he continues, "The Sinkhole is always looking for guards and adventurers. If you're looking for something a little more mundane, you can attempt one of the businesses in the Harbour District or Commercial District." The door opens again, and a couple of fairly well dressed sailors come in, "You will have to excuse me." Yoseph says apologetically, "Duty calls."
Yoseph moves away to serve his customers, leaving you to your thoughts. Shortly after, he serves them some drinks and swings by your table, "We're doing roast beef, or halibut tonight. Which would you prefer? Also, would you like something to drink?" With your order taken, he makes his way into the kitchen.

She nodded and turned keeping her back to the sailors, not wanting to draw to much attention to herself as she stares down at her glass of water. When he mentions food she looks up and debates if she is hungry. "Roast beef would be fine and I'm good with just water." she said motioning to her glass. Idly sipping her water she occasionally fiddles with the silver tear drop hanging from her ear and seems to be very much lost in thought. Replaying the vision in her mind as she stares off into the distance. She really didn't understand anything in the dream with the shadowy hands and pieces of the city.

Over the next hour a dozen or so groups come and go. Some solo, a few pairs, and the rest are three or more people. Every last person that came in is Human, except for one half-Elf that arrives by themselves. The food arrives quickly, having prepared it all ahead of time. Though you were not sure if you were hungry or not before, the smell of freshly cooked roast beef under your nose changes that instantly. Your stomach growls loudly enough that the two sailors look over at you for a moment before they go back to speaking quietly between them. For the most part you are left to your own devices. Yoseph stops by briefly from time to time to clear your plate, refill your drink, or simply to ask if you need anything.

She couldn't help but blush at the sound her stomach made as she dug into the food, having not eaten in over 24 hours. From time to time she glanced up and around the room watching as people come and go. Once she is done eating she glanced around the room once more before finishing her glass of water and leaning back in her chair. Reaching into her pocket she pulled out her coin pouch so that she could pay for her food and retire to her room for the night. She had plans to go find a job tomorrow, or at the very least go to the temple and see if someone could help her with the vision.

Yoseph shakes his head as you offer to pay, "No dear, the meal is included with the room." He slips off to finish with another table. If you hang around downstairs you watch the people come and go, and Yoseph dodging back and forth from table to kitchen to table. The dim lighting within the inn makes for great ambience, and nobody seems to take notice of your extraordinary features. The one thing that sticks out to you is that everyone here seems really well dressed. Thinking back across the day you recall that almost all of the people you passed today, even the commoners, were wearing their 'sunday best' so to speak. Once the last customers leave, Yoseph collapses into a chair. He removes his chef hat, wipes the sweat from his brow. "Business has picking up lately." He says with a tired, but heartfelt smile.

"Oh ok" she nodded and returned her coin pouch to her pocket as she sat back and watched everyone come and go. Great full that no one seemed to notice her different appearance she just watched silently. unsure why everyone was dressed so nicely but just chalking it up to how people must be around here. " It seemed rather busy, and the food was wonderful thank you." she said flashing him a smile as she looked around the room." would you like a hand with the dishes and cleaning up?" She asked, figuring since he had been so kind to her that perhaps she should return the favor.

He smiles warmly in response, “No, no, it wouldn’t be proper. You are my guest after all.” He laughs softly as he gets back to his feet. “I will have all this taken care of in short order.” He indicates the dishes that still remain from the last two tables that left. “While I do, perhaps you’ve thought about what you would like to do tomorrow?” Between your responses and his answers he clears the tables, then props the kitchen door open with a chair so he can still talk to you while he tidies up in the kitchen.

" Find a job of some sort and visit the Pelor temple, I need to speak with high priest(??) about vision I had." She said as she looked over at him watching him move back and forth. Running her fingers threw her hair as she stifled a yawn. "Definitely need to find some kind of work I have some skills from all the time I spent at sea, perhaps I'll try my hand as a guard or try the adventurers guild." She said with a simple shrug. Not really having a major destination or set job in mind. She had spent so much time on a ship, being a sailor was almost all she really knew at this point. Before that she had been stuck in a temple because of her race and her visions. Her guide hadn't been helpful and she wanted nothing to do with them anymore.

Yoseph’s voice calls out over the clatter of a utensil clattering off a pot, “The Lightbringer is a good man. He came in here once you know. Sat at the same table you’re sitting at actually.” He pokes his head around the door frame, “You say you had a vision? Would you be willing to share that with me? Maybe I can help you figure out what it means? If not me, then Myst, she’s quite smart and should be home soon.” Upon saying that he darts back into the kitchen, and you can hear him preparing to do the dishes... again.
“If you have sailing experience, you could always try your luck with one of the ships down by the docks. I’m sure one of the Captains down there would be willing to take you on board.” He shrugs, “Or you could sign on as a guard by heading to the Swamp Gate, or join the Adventurer’s Guild while you’re up in the High District to speak with the Light Bringer.”

She gave a halfhearted smirk when he spoke of the light bringer being a nice man, after everything that had happened in her life she wasn’t too fond of her patron god or the light bringers that served him. “ I saw a city well more like a puzzle of a city, beneath it was a sea of shadowy hands, some of the hands held blades, the shadowy hands were reaching up and snatching pieces of the city and the blades cut away pieces that seemed to fall into the shadowy sea. Up above there was a bright sun surrounding a woman who had the nobility of a dragon, behind her in a shadow was a man perhaps his features weren’t very clear but he seemed to be helping the woman. Tiny threads ran from his hands to various buildings in the city and some into the shadowy sea. There were places that the shadow hands seemed to avoid as if the bright light burnt them.” She glanced down at her glass once more. “It’s what I saw right before I came to and came face to face with Myst.” She said as she glanced at the door half expecting her to have walked in while she was explaining the vision. “I should probably try the docks first and see if I can find work on a ship if possible, since I’ve spent most of my life at sea. Captain Gillian of the gliding sun took me in when I was just a child, after my home was destroyed.” There was a bit of anger and sadness in her voice at the mention of her captain and of the loss of her home. Giving a slight shake of her head she pushed those memories away, not wanting to dwell on the past at this time. “Unless you are looking to hire someone here?” She glanced towards the kitchen door listening to him wash dishes and clean up from the dinner service. The fact that she now sat where a light bringer had once sat wasn’t lost on her, she thought it rather ironic actually almost laughable, a small smirk on her face as tried not to laugh out loud at the thought. " So I'm sitting where a High light bringer sat. The irony isn't lost on me, all my life I have served him and all its ever gotten me is pain and suffering. " she muttered the last bit more to herself than anyone else.

Part way through you describing your vision, Yoseph comes out drying his hands on a towel. He throws it over his shoulder, paying attention to each detail you describe.
“I think I might be able to help with the meaning of most of that actually.” He slips into the chair opposite you, “The puzzle city was Clifton, I have no doubt of that.” He looks around nervously, checking the darker corners of the room in particular before continuing in a much quieter voice, “This city is infected by a pair of guilds. The Shadow Hand, and the Night Blades.”
He checks around the room nervously again, leaning in like he is about to confide a secret, “The Shadow Hand have their fingers in everything. They steal anything they can get their hands on. They demand payment for protection. They loan coin with excessive interest, and when you can’t pay they take over everything you have.”
He pauses to make sure you understand the gravity of the situation, “I believe the sea of shadowy hands represents the Shadow Hand itself.” He looks scared now, more so than nervous. He wipes sweat from his brow, and continues almost at a whisper, “The other guild is the Night Blades. They deal in violence. Robberies, kidnapping, and murder are their business. The hands from your vision with knives must be them.”
He leans back and speaks a little more normally, though still quietly, “You said they were taking bits of the city, cutting away at the city itself. Sounds like what they’re doing here in the real world too.”
He leans back in his chair, and smiles, “Now the woman you described is Duchess Eliezra Marmooth. She rules this city in her uncle, the emperor’s name. She is a devout Pelorian. If not for her the guilds would have chewed up and spat out this city ages ago.” You can feel the pride radiating from him as he speaks about the Duchess.
“The shadowed figure I’m not sure about, I assume he’s working from the shadows to help the Duchess. Maybe it’s the exiled Prince from the Somerset Isles? He was seen recently at one of the Duchess’ fashion shows.”
“It would make sense that places devout to Pelor would be more likely to stand up to the guilds. Perhaps the places that burnt the hands are those places within the city.”
You glance to the door, but it remains closed. No sign of Myst or anyone else at the moment. Yoseph glances around the room once again. He then slowly lets out a long shaky breath, like he was holding his breath with his apprehension.
As you start to talk about finding work at the docks, Yoseph excuses himself to get back to work in the kitchen. “Please continue, I don’t mind if you have to shout a bit.” In spite of the clatter of dishes, Yoseph still responds, “Your Captain Gillian sounds like quite the man. Again, I’m sorry for your loss. Both your recent one, and your prior home.”
When you offer your services to Yoseph, he calls out, “I don’t really have the business to take on any staff right now. I would be willing to knock a bit off my weekly rate if you wanted to help out around here I suppose.”
Yoseph’s silhouette fills the kitchen door, once again drying his arms with a towel. When Myst’s voice surprises you from the closed front door, “I told you before not to disparage the Gods.” She gestures and the glob of water she used to silence the chime disperses into the air, “You said your home was destroyed, but yet this ships captain takes you in and provides you with family, a new home, and a vocation.”
Yoseph must have made a face, or gestured, or something. Because Myst turned her attention to him for a moment, offering him a small smile before continuing, “All of that has now been taken from you...” Her eyes flick to Yoseph for a moment, “... and for that I am truly sorry. Now though, you find yourself here in Clifton. When you should have drowned at sea. There must be a reason why your Deity would want you here, now.”
Yoseph looks excited for a moment, and you fear he might blurt out what you just told him. He closes his mouth, and looks to you instead.

She sat listening to his interpretation of her vision, it made the most sense to her especially since he knew the city better than she did. Glancing over at Myst she did her best not to roll her eyes. “I’m sure there is some reason, just not sure what it is and after everything I have dealt with can you blame me? and I didn't disparage the gods I just thought it was mildly amusing that I am sitting where a high light bringer once sat.” she said as she looked away. “Its fine yoseph you trust her, you can tell her, maybe she has more to offer on it.” She said as she leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms over her chest. She was a bit pissed off but was keeping her mouth shut she didn’t want to make Myst mad at her any more than she already was. She knew Myst didn’t want her to disparage the gods but she still wasn’t sure what her purpose was really at this point after losing everyone she had ever cared for. She was a bit jaded. Reaching up she fiddled with her earing again a look of sadness crossing her face as she kind of stared off into space, both of her families had been taken from her and she hadn’t been given a single vision to help prevent it instead she gets a vision of this city and kept alive and nothing made sense at this moment.

Myst must have read something in your expression, or mannerisms because her expression softened almost immediately, “I’m sorry if I misspoke. I’m only a few days above water, and it is a bit of a culture shock for me.” She takes a moment, then repeats, “Truly, I am sorry.” He takes a breath, and sets back to listening, “You are not to blame for any of the destruction in your life, we are but tools of the Gods. The bridle does not know where the sea horse is being led, it just does what it must.”
With permission given, Yoseph goes over your vision with Myst. He pauses to confirm details with you, and both ask a few new questions. Myst only offers, “It seems to me that since you are touched by Pelor, and the Duchess is surrounded by His light...” she trails off, still putting the words together in her mind, “...perhaps you were sent here to help the Duchess save the city from the Thieves guilds?” Yoseph adds, “Pelor does ask that his faithful take his light into all the dark places. I can tell you in recent years, Clifton is starting to feel pretty dark.”

"Its ok myst, no need to apologize. "She said with a slight shake of her head. "I am to blame, I must have done something wrong to anger him, why else would I be forced to stand and watch as I lost everything." she said and stood walking over to the fish tank and staring into its depths. She answered what ever questions they asked as to her vision while she seemed to stare into the fish tank. A heavy sadness surrounded her as she stood there unshed tears in her eyes.
"I'm honestly not sure what good I can do, destruction seems to follow me." she said as she turned around to face them. " I'm going to retire for the night, thank you both for your help today and for the wonderful food. good night." she said and then turned and headed towards her room, "please Pelor let me sleep tonight," she whispered as she entered her room, she didn't want any visions tonight but knew better than to be hopeful on this.

The twin looks of utter sorrow on Myst and Yoseph’s faces almost pushes you over the edge. You turn to the fish tank for solace and are abruptly face to face with a lopsided, goofy looking orange and blue fish. The ridiculous fish offers momentary reprieve from the worst of your mourning.
Myst lays an arm over your shoulder, and gives you a little squeeze. She has a mischievous smile on her face, “Destruction is exactly what these guilds need. If you need a hand with something specific, perhaps I can be of assistance in the future.” She steps back to give you some space. As you bid them good night, Myst says, “Peaceful currents to you.” And Yoseph says, “Rest well. See you in the morning for breakfast.”
(I’ll give you one more to handle night time routine, before I handle the night and skip to morning.)

Removing her boots and weapons she climbed into bed. Pulling her knees to her chest she lets go of the tears she had been holding back. Trying her best to keep as quiet as possible as she cried, finally able to mourn the loss of her captain and family and mourning all her family once again. Her body shook from the force of her tears as she cried. " why Pelor why?" she repeated a few times her voice rough from crying. Laying down she curled up on her side beneath the blanket.

The path to sleep is long and winding, but eventually you’re simply to exhausted to cry any more. You slump into a fitful and restless sleep. Each time you wake you realize that you’re not swaying in a hammock and are forced to recall all that has happened in the last twenty four hours. After what feels like an eternity, you finally fall into some real restful sleep as the first rays of the sun light up your room.
The dream starts much as it did before. There is Clifton in puzzle form, the shadow hands snatching whatever they can get ahold of from below, while the twin beacons of the Light Shrine and the Palace radiate light across the city.
You realize that there is another twinkling bright point that wasn’t there last time. Mentally you follow the stair down from the Harbour Gate, turn left at Wharf Road and stop with your finger pointing at the Well Groomed Pike. The light radiating from here isn’t as bright as that of the Temple or palace, but it is enough to make the shadowy hands pull back as if burnt when they get too close.
Your view is pulled a few blocks away, to a large two story structure with severe architecture. Children sized faces fill the upper windows, Though the faces are featureless, you get a feeling of sadness and fear from them. They scatter from the windows like a flock of frightened birds, and your view pivots to a man walking up the cart path to the house.
He is tall and lanky, with short cropped brown hair. A long shaggy beard, and thick sideburns. His clothing is all dark brown leather, with silver studs and buckles. He walks with a limp, using a cane to offset his gait.
“DESTROY. THIS. MAN.” The voice is sourceless, and yet everywhere within your mind at once. Though spoken at a normal volume, the voice is so forceful that it drives all other thoughts from your mind.
You wake at high sun, feeling rested. The bed is still warm from where the sun moved across you as it crossed the room over the last few hours. Whenever you get to it. There is a small table outside your room door with a simple breakfast and a note, “You missed breakfast, and you didn’t respond when I knocked. I left you this little snack to tide you over in the meantime. Best Wishes. Yoseph.”

The image of the man was stuck in her head as she got up and got herself ready for the day, having not intended to sleep as late as she had but just figuring she needed it plus she was gifted with another vision. Stepping out of the room she spotted the food and smiled softly. Quickly scarfing down the food before heading down to the main room hoping to find yoseph and ask him about the vision before she headed out into the town. " I guess you have your reason Pelor" She muttered as she entered the main room and looked around hoping to spot yoseph or even myst. She needed to explain to them her newest vision and hopefully they would know who this man was since apparently she needed to destroy him.

Arriving downstairs, you find the main room empty. All of the tables are set for the next meal. Sitting at the spot where you ate the night prior is a pair of keys, and another note, “I’ve gone out to do a little shopping. Please take these keys, and come and go as you please. The smaller key is for your room upstairs, in case you want some privacy. The larger key is for the front door. There is a packed lunch on the counter in the kitchen. Enjoy, Yoseph.”
Looks like you’re waiting or exploring on your own... what’s the plan?

Seeing the note she kind of shrugs and goes to get her lunch before grabbing the keys and heading out the door. Making sure to lock it behind her before turning around to look out at the streets. "guess its time to find the temple" she said as she looked around trying to remember which direction she had to go to get there. This city was a bit confusing and she was definitely going to get lost again.

The lunch consists of some dried meats, cheeses and a freshly baked bun. There is also a small pouch of mixed seeds and nuts. Gathering your belongings, including your lunch, you head out of the Well Groomed Pike. The air smells of the sea, maybe a little stronger fish smell than when you're out on open water. Not surprising given Clifton's heavily enclosed harbour. It's a pleasant enough day, a little cool, but nothing you're not used to from being actually out on the water. The sun is shining, and there isn't a cloud to be seen.
You hang a left, and after a few minutes find yourself in a cul de sac. There are three buildings surrounding the end of this road. Outside the first, a sign showing a scroll with three squiggles to represent writing. The second looks more a fortress, with thick stone walls and arrow slits instead of windows. It has a sign showing a scale, Empire coins on one side and Somerset coins on the other. The final building has no sign, and seems to be a residence of some sort. Realizing that you left the inn in the wrong direction, you turn around and double back to the Well Groomed Pike. Continuing straight past the inn, you find the stair.
Ascending the stair is as arduous as the stairs in the guard house were yesterday. You have to take several breaks as you climb the massive stair case. Sailors and labourers carrying barrels and crates trudge past you, some glance your way but most just focus on their footing. You feel a little embarrassed when a man at least three times your age carrying a pair of bulging packs strides past you while you rest. You try to follow behind him, but he easily out paces you. Glancing up at that man as he leaves, you catch a glimpse of his massive calves. He must have been born here, walking these stairs daily for years.
When you finally reach the Harbour Gate, Guardsman Jackson gives you a friendly smile, "If you're headed into the Commercial District, make sure you stop by the Wayfarer's Rest. Tell Old Borris that I sent you, and he will give you a free ale. You can find the Wayfarer's Rest in the heart of the Commercial District. Just go right down that road there." He thumbs to the road behind him. "That's my pitch, go on now." He waves you through the Harbour Gate.

She definitely wasn't used to all these stairs and grumbled about it occasionally as she made her way threw the city. spotting Jackson she gives a slight wave listening to his little pitch before glancing around. She wanted to go to the temple not the wayfarers rest. "Which direction for the temple?" She asked as she approached guardsman Jackson. Pushing her hair from her face and trying to hide that fact that she was a bit tired from climbing all the blasted stairs. It was definitely easy to get lost around here if you weren't from around her. She could only hope she remembered how to get back to the well groomed pike. It was almost laughable at how easily she got lost, considering when on a ship she had no issues with directions and could easily get them from city to city but here it was a different story.

Guardsman Jackson smiles again, clearly happy to help and a people person, “Through the Harbour Gate, turn right. Through the High Gate, follow the main road up to the Temple. I know this city seems confusing at first, but is really quite easy to get around in if you just look up more.” He gestures behind you and up, way up above the walls, “That right there is the temple.” Easily seen above the walls is the Temple of Pelor, radiating the golden reflection of the sun. “Just there is the Palace.” He switches to pointing above the walls on the other side of the Harbour District. “Now on the other side of the Harbour Gate, it’s just as easy. The wall that brings you to the Palace, the High District and the Harbour District is always uphill from wherever you are. The Commercial District is split into quarters by two main roads where they meet is where the Wayfarer’s Rest is by the way.” He laughs here, “Is that enough to get you where you’re going?”

"Yes thank you." She said and smiled at him before heading threw the harbor gate doing her best to remember his directions. "Always uphill, everything is uphill in this city, so many stairs" She muttered as she continued, once again not looking up like she was told. Glancing up she looked around trying to figure out how she had ended up at the palace instead of at the temple where she had intended to go. Giving a frustrated sigh she ran her fingers threw her hair and started to turn around but something about the visions she had been having made her stop, maybe she was meant to be here. "Pelor grant me guidance" she said with a pitiful glance up at the sky.

The Palace Gate looks similar to the Harbour Gate in form and function, except that the Palace Gate is closed, and people are coming and going only through a sally port. The only other difference here is that the guards are wearing half plate or full plate armour instead of the chainmail at the other gate. One of those guards has broken away from the rest, slowly approaching you.

She looked over at the guard and gave a small wave, not wanting to be seen as a threat, she hadn't really intended to end up at the palace but she felt like she needed to be here. "Hello" she said as she stopped where she was and let him approach her. maybe if she could talk to the duchess, maybe she could help in some way with the thieves guilds. Pelor had guided her here for some reason and even though she wasn't a big fan of her patron god or her guide but she figured there must be some reason for it.

The man moves toward you, and you notice two things. First he wears two golden suns upon his uniform, and each of the others at the gate wear only one. The guards at the Harbour gate did not have any such marking. Second, you notice that his path is an arc rather than straight forward. It takes a moment to realize that this movement is tactical. Straight toward you blocks the angle of the archers, while the arcing path leaves you exposed to potential arrow fire. These men are well trained, elite members of Clifton’s watch.
“You approach the Palace Gate with hesitation in your steps. Are you worried about what you have come here to do?” You can tell that he is suspicious of your intentions, but he offers you a path to safety, “Or perhaps you simply took a wrong turn, and ended up at the wrong gate?” The weight of the attention of all those armed guards presses upon you, “If you have business at the Palace, speak it now.” His tone is serious, but not threatening. A man with a job that he intends on doing.

"I took a wrong turn, I meant to go to the temple" she replies a bit embarrassed that she got lost again. " I'm new here and its a bit confusing" she glanced up at the armed guards then back at the man in front of him. She didn't mean any harm as he wasn't the man from her vision. She really needed to pay better attention to where she was going in this city or she had a feeling she was going to end up in even more trouble than she could handle. "Could you point me in the right direction?" She said as she glanced up at the palace, it was exactly like what she had seen in the vision both times, so she had a feeling she would end up back here again but hopefully under better circumstances. For now she wanted to get to the temple and get advice from a high light bringer if one would speak with her, then she needed to find work.

"I figured as much. We get a lot of that over here." He points back the way you came, "Head back that way. Go past the Harbour Gate, and keep going until you reach the High Gate. Once in the High District, follow the main road until you reach the Temple." He says it with a practiced ease, as if he has said it a thousand times before. He glances at another person as they head toward the gate. He must have recognized them, as he waves them through without any challenge.
The man appears Half-Elven. His long brown hair is parted down the middle. He wears a plain robe with ink stains around the right wrist. A thick gold ring is worn on the middle finger of his right hand. A dagger is sheathed on his left hip, and a scroll case hangs from his right hip. He carries a pack, with a box-like shape contained within. He approaches the gate with his nose in a book, barely paying attention to his surroundings. One of the guards actually turns him a little to stop him from walking straight into the side of the sally port.
With directions given, the guard gives you a nod and returns back to his post. Heading back the way you came, you pass the steady stream of Humanity coming through the Harbour Gate. The crowds thin between the Harbour Gate and the High Gate, but the quality of the clothing goes up considerably. Most of the people you pass look wealthy, Nobles or aristocrats for sure. As you approach the High Gate, you can see a similar collection of guards to the Harbour Gate. Unlike the Palace Gate, the guards here are letting people pass through uncontested. As you approach one of the guards steps up to block your path, "Where do you think you're going?" He looks you up and down, and says, "I thought you angel's bastards were supposed to have pearlescent skin? I guess whatever angel's wet dream you spawned from tainted you, eh?" He glances back at his fellow guards, laughs and makes a shoeing motion at you, "Go on, get back to the Harbour District where you belong."
Most of the guards behind him are pointedly ignoring both him and you, focusing a little too intently on the people passing through the gate. One of the guards actually rolls his eyes behind his fellows back. Clearly he has done this before. You still need to get through this gate if you want to reach the Temple. What's your plan?

She couldn't help but roll her eyes at what he said though it wasn't obvious that she was rolling her eyes since she had no colored pupils. " real original, I'm here to go to the temple, not to cause any trouble, I simply wish to pray to Pelor" she said as she crossed her arms over her chest. not reaching for her weapons but obviously standing her ground. She had dealt with the hate all her life so it didn't bother her anymore or at least she didn't let it show that it bothered her." Will you let me pass?" She asked and gave a slight gesture in the direction of the gate.
