The Captain tilts his head to one side, then responds in a whisper you can't here. It takes you a moment to realize that he's responding to someone else. "Sorry about that. My companion got back to me about the Gliding Sun." He responds out loud, while simultaneously responding in your mind, 'As your faith grows, you will broaden your connection with your deity. Eventually, you might be able to speak with them directly. At least if you know where to go that is.' He seems to realize that you are not used to having multiple conversations at the same time. He smiles, and begins leaving a larger gap between the spoken conversation and the mental one. This way anyone observing them would see them chatting idly, if a bit slowly, and not really think much about it.
Once more out loud, "The Gliding Sun has been taken by pirates, and it currently undergoing repairs in a cove near the Wyvern Straight. That location is dangerous to travel through alone. Speak with the Dragon Speaker of Bahamut if you want a guide through the area." Before giving you time to respond, and continuing it in your mind, 'If you prefer stealth, sneak in and look for evidence. If you prefer to use your charms, make up a cover story and get inside. An orphanage is not a fortress, and if the man is mistreating the residents you already have allies inside. I would avoid direct conflict, as the Pins will see your aggression as illegal.'

She glances at him watching him quietly when she realizes he wasn't actually talking to her. When he mentions her ship her eyes light up with hope, but just as quickly as it shows the light dies as well. She gives a slight shrug of a response when he mentions speaking with her deity. Her thoughts drifting towards the fact that pirates now held her ship. if pirates hold the ship then there is no chance that my crew or my captain survived, i hoped just this once that i wouldn't loose those i cared about again, but no Pelor cant even grant me that. lost in her own thoughts as she picks up her drink and drinks it down, not chugging it but also not taking tiny sips any more, hoping it would numb something of the raw emotions she is still feeling. when he mentions either being sneaky or using her charm she simply nods. perhaps using my contact with the Pelor temple as an excuse to come in, to check on the children and spread the word of Pelor. her thoughts are a bit scattered as she sets her nearly empty glass down and stares at the shimmery liquid for the moment.

The Captain is very obviously still reading your mind as he responds to your thoughts directly, "Sorry, I should have mentioned the status of your crew. I assumed where your thoughts would go incorrectly. I don't know how many people were on your crew, but there are a fair number of prisoners being held near where the ship is being repaired." He seems to be caught up in the twin conversations, as he almost overlays the mental conversation over the verbal one. You have no idea how he is managing to keep both conversations straight in his mind, 'That subterfuge sounds like an excellent starting point. Since you've made contact with the High Lightbringer, you could potentially make that a real official visit. With the power of the Pelorian church behind you.'
The booze hit your system, bringing with it the familiar buzz of alcohol. Additionally it has a bit of an aphrodisiac effect. You're not sure whether that's entirely the booze, or the presence of The Captain. The Captain isn't attractive, pretty average overall in almost every way. There is something about his friendly manner that makes him likable though, so there is that.

Then tomorrow i will go and speak with the high light bringer i know he will help me with what I need to pull this off. is the first thought in her head as she struggles slightly to keep up both conversations at the same time. Really not sure how he is able to do so. "thank you for finding the information you did about my ship and crew, i am in your debt." she says, some part of her is aware of what she just said knowing it would most likely cost her greatly but at the same time she felt safe enough around him. leaning back in her seat as she continued to stare at her glass, occasionally glancing up at him as her thoughts wandered with the effects of the alcohol. She wasn't entirely sure if it was the alcohol or perhaps the simple fact that he showed her such kindness and didn't seem disgusted by her or even afraid of her that seemed to hold her attention. i wonder if he..... no he can read my thoughts, oh this is embarrassing Her cheeks tinted red though it was very faint with her dark complexion as she picked up her glass and downed the rest of the contents quickly trying to keep her mind clear and not show her inexperience when it comes to men.

Though your thoughts wander a bit further a field that you wanted them too, The Captain is a perfect gentlemen. From his expression, and manner you would say that he wasn't actively reading your mind just then. Aloud, he responds, "Do not be silly, there is no debt to be had. I simply had my ship do a quick pass over the local area. My mate found it readily enough." You catch that he said mate, and not first mate. It could have been a slip, or a shorthand, or maybe he was subtlety trying to tell you that he is taken. You're not sure which. "Unfortunately, I must take my leave. Apparently a clan of psionic militants has literally broken away from a kingdom in the far East. They've somehow caused a huge chunk of land hundreds of acres wide to float up and away. That might not be so bad by itself, but they've taken many terrified non-psionic people along for the ride." He stands, tossing a pair of platinum coins on the table. "It has truly been a pleasure. I hope we get to chat again sometime." With that The Captain says a few arcane words and vanishes with a small popping sound.
Yoseph stops by the table a moment later, gently scooping up the coins, "Do you know The Captain?" He holds up a bottle with more of the drink you already had a glass of, offering you another round. Glancing around the room, there is nobody left inside except Yoseph and Myst. Myst gives you a little wave when you notice that she is there.

"Oh well safe travels, i look forward to seeing you again." she gives a small smile and watches him disappear, rather grateful that if he heard her thoughts he at least was gentleman enough to not say anything, next time though she will be better prepared at keeping her thoughts more focused on the conversation at hand. She glances up when yoseph approaches and holds out the bottle. not one to normally refuse alcohol she decides she better stop while she is ahead just this once. "no thanks, i think I've had enough of that one for now." she says with a small smirk. " actually no this was my first time meeting him, i only heard the stories of him, he is a bit of a legend at sea." glancing over at myst she gives a small wave before standing up and pushing her chair in. "thank you for everything yoseph" she says flashing him a smile before glancing over at the fish tank to watch the fish for just a moment as if lost in thought. glancing away from the fish tank as she realizes everyone else was gone and remembering what she had almost intruded on earlier between myst and yoseph she decides its best to give them some time together, her own thoughts a bit scattered still after her encounter with the captain. "good night." her words soft as she gives a slight nod and heads for her room, knowing sleep most likely wont come easily and almost afraid of what her dreams will bring. once in her room she hangs up her clothing and gear and climbs into bed. a silent prayer to Pelor for maybe not making her dreams so confusing tonight.

Yoseph smiles, "I told you this" He holds up the bottle, "One had a bit of a kick. Would you like something else instead? Myst and I are sharing a bottle of strawberry wine. Very light and fruity, you're welcome to join us if you like." When you politely decline, he nods, saying, "As you wish. Good night to you as well Mistress Ferison." He gives a slight bow before heading back to the table where Myst is sitting.
Your room is as you left it, with nothing out of place. Once you climb into bed you find your thoughts running circles around each other. The results are always the same tangled mess with no conclusions. Do you follow your divine mandate, and deal with the man at the orphanage or do you follow your heart and try to save the crew of the Gliding Sun? Will tomorrow bring a trip to the Pelorian Temple for guidance or the Temple to Bahamut for a guide to the Wyvern Strait? You exhale exasperated, and take a few calming breaths. Offering your silent prayer to Pelor, you finally drift off to sleep.
Your view changes from looking up at the ceiling of your room at the Well Groomed Pike to floating over the puzzle city of Clifton once again. The shadow hands are still snatching, though the area around the orphanage is a little darker than you recall from previous dreams. The twin beacons of the Light Shrine and the Palace still radiate light across the city, but are there even more threads linking the man behind the Duchess to others within the city? Even the Well Groomed Pike still shines it's little light into the darkness.
In your peripheral vision you see the jagged cliffs leading away from the city, you try to follow them further but your vision is pulled the few blocks to the orphanage. All those children's faces still line the upper windows, only now you recognize some of them, one you can even name. The sense of sadness is the same, pouring from the place like waves against the shore.
You fight the vision, battling for control and you just manage to turn your head and see it. The Gliding Sun, docked along the cliffs less than a day from town. A few tents have been staked out on a nearby flat area, though one has been torn to ribbons. You vision is pulled back to the tall, lanky man with short cropped brown hair. His long shaggy beard, and thick sideburns making him look a little disheveled. This time the man carries a fat ledger tucked under his arm, and held close to his chest.
The same sourceless voice fills every nook and cranny of your mind, “DESTROY. THIS. MAN.” As the vision slowly pulls back you notice children being lead away from the Light into the darkness by men in gray cloaks. As your dream fades you glance once more at your ship. Standing in the entrance to one of the tents is your captain, shirtless, with a bandage wrapped around his stomach.
You come awake to sunlight playing across your face from the window. Where to?

Waking up to sunlight in her face, she gives a bit of a frustrated sigh and sits up running her fingers threw her hair to detangle it as she ponders over the dreams or rather visions from last night. Her heart torn in decision, she really wanted to go and rescue her crew but she knew better than to go against Pelor's wishes. " just hang on for a little longer captain." she whispers to herself as she gets up and readies herself for the day with the intention of going to the temple to speak to the high light bringer to see if there was anything he could do that would gain her entrance into the orphanage so that she could destroy the man, though she would have to be very careful as shadows were everywhere. Once satisfied with her appearance she heads downstairs.

You descend the stairs to find Myst with her hands outstretched toward the aquarium. Glancing that way you can see the water moving as if someone was scrubbing the inside of the glass. A globe or dirty water floats up out of top of the aquarium, and makes it’s way across the room toward the front door. Myst opens the door and carefully pours the water into the nearby grass.
“Good morning.” She says simply. “I have a free day today. What do you think I should do with it?” She closes the door as she talks, turning the lock again to secure the business.

"Good morning." she said pausing long enough to watch what myst was doing and ponder her question. "perhaps a trip to the market or some shopping?" she offered not really sure what myst liked to do in her free time. "I'm headed to the temple to speak with the light bringer. I'm hoping he can help me."pausing once more to fidget with her hair for a moment to get it to cooperate the best she could as she glanced at the aquarium once more. "I've been tasked with a job from Pelor and the sooner I can finish it the sooner I can rescue my captain and the crew." she muttered the last bit as she double checked all her stuff and headed towards the door.

Myst wrinkles her nose, and shakes her head, “Shopping is a chore, there are so many stairs. It makes me miss the water.” She listens intently to your words, then adds, “I recall your dream, but what is this about your Captain?”
Myst puts a hand on your shoulder to steady you, and keep you stationary. A glob of water floats across the room to above your head. It splashed down, but only wets your hair. With a look of concentration, Myst gestures frantically at your head and you feel all the knots letting go. When she draws the water away from your hair, leaving it dry to the touch, you find it flowing almost straight with a gentle wave.

"you recall who I was sitting with a dinner last night, well he is the legendary captain john, one of his crew members was able to locate my captain and the ship and the rest of the crew that survived, they were captured by pirates and are being held not far from here...." she pauses when she feels myst's hand on her shoulder rather confused at first but then completely surprised by the water. Going completely still till the water is gone, reaching up he hand to touch her head she looks slightly confused," thank you, I normally have no luck with my hair, mother used to say that I may be angel touched by my hair certainly wasn't." she said with a slight chuckle as she looked up at myst. " any way I hope that by doing pelor's bidding that he will aid me in freeing my captain and crew." Tucking her hair back behind her ears, still a bit surprised that myst was able to get her hair to cooperate and actually look presentable. With her hair styled as it was it made her look angel blessed rather than angel cursed.

Myst nods, "Yoseph told me a little about Captain Smithe. He seems like an interesting fellow." She takes on a confiding tone, "His hat would be useless in the water." She listens to the rest of your tale with rapt attention, "If you know where your Captain and crew are, I think you should save them first. This orphanage will still be here when you get back, your crew might not be if the pirates finish their repairs."
With your hair tended to, Myst smiles. Seeming very much the big sister in this moment, "You surface dwellers have it easy, try keeping your hair under control when you live underwater." Her smile abruptly fades, and her movements come across as stiff for a moment. She runs her fingers through your hair, and smiles again. This time the smile seems a little sad around the eyes, "I used to tend to my sisters hair." Her voice takes on a far away tone, and she whispers, "It seems so long ago now." You don't think she meant to say the last bit out loud.

" I fear if I do not do as Pelor wishes before going to save my crew, it will not bode well for me." she says as she looks over at her. "thank you for doing my hair. i never had anyone to really teach me how to style it." she says with a shrug as she glances down at her well worn clothing. There are plenty of rips and tears that have been sloppily mended, showing that she has at least tried to fix her clothing. Curious about myst's sister but thinking perhaps she shouldn't ask at the moment. " I should get going, thank you again myst" she says as she heads for the door.

Myst nods, "Perhaps this evening I will teach you how to style your hair. It really would be my pleasure." She gives you a wave before getting back to cleaning out the aquarium. You've seen that aquarium up close, it really doesn't need another cleaning. The sounds of the Harbour District, and the song of sea birds greet your ears as soon as you step out of the Well Groomed Pike. Wharf Lane is quiet, as it usually is at this time of the day. Turning toward the stair, you can already see the line of sailors and labourers making their way up to the city, and down to the docks.
Where are you headed?

looking around for a just a few moments, as if checking the shadows for anyone or anything for that matter before heading towards the light temple to go and discuss her plan with the high light bringer. Hopefully he would be able to assist her in getting into the orphanage so she could get the information they needed to bring it down. Carefully making her way up to the temple, trying her best not to get lost this time even with her mind elsewhere because she was worried about her captain and crew.

You take the arduous journey up The Stair to the Harbour Gate. Guardsman Jackson is there, and he gives you a friendly nod while he touts the Wayfarer's Rest to a newcomer. You have to admire that man's hustle. Once through the gate you take the right turn and head toward the High Gate. Part way along you see that racist guard from the other day walking toward the High Gate. If you hurry, you might be able to get to the gate before he gets on shift.

Upon seeing the racist guard she picks up the pace to hurry threw the gate not wanting to deal with him again, as she isn't sure the other guard will stop him this time. Keeping her head down and trying not draw any more attention to herself than she already has just by being here, as she doesn't exactly blend in with others. She just needs to make it threw the gates and to the temple, he couldn't bother her there.

The guardsman seems wrapped in his own thoughts, and takes no special notice of you or anyone else while he walks toward his post. When you arrive at the High Gate there are more guards there then last time you were here, and you suspect that you have arrived during a shift change. You are waved through after one of the guards asks you where you are headed.
This early in the day the streets of the High District are mostly empty, aside from trios of guards walking their patrols of course. A few people with the look of servants hurrying to get to their noble masters, or off on some task set by those same masters. One man stands out more than any other you've seen so far in the city. The man is incredibly well dressed, quite eccentric looking. He wears a plain platinum ring on his finger. He walks slowly up the incline in the direction of the Temple and Mages Guild. He has a dozen pouches hanging from his waist and a few vials set into a sash slung diagonally across his chest.
Whether you approach the man, or hurry on by him on your way to the Temple, he calls out to you, "You there! Aasimar, yes? Can I trouble you with a bit of an odd request?"
Make a perception check with Disadvantage.

(perception 10+3=13) She looks up confused at first but hearing him yell aasimar she walks over to him."what can i do for you?" she asks slightly curious as to what he needed from her, since he was stopping her from her current destination. She really wanted to hurry along to the temple and speak with the high light bringer but also knew that pelor would be mad at her for ignoring another person who needed assistance.

The man smiles as you approach, "Excellent, my name is Guildmaster Weis Wickman, Conjuration Archmage here at the Mage's Guild." He offers you his hand, "I've been running a few experiments dealing with creatures from the upper planes. Would you be willing to assist me with my research? It would only take a few minutes, and you would be paid handsomely of course." You hear a huff of breath from well above you, but when you glance up there is nothing there.

She looks at his hand then back up at him not taking his offered hand. Unsure if she should actually help him as she didnt know him but the offer of money was extremely tempting especially cause she was out of funds and would need the money soon. "ok what do you need me to do?" she asked as she crossed her arms over her chest watching him.

He looks down at his extended hand, then lets it fall. "My offer is simple. I will offer you ten gold 'nix per vial of blood you allow me to collect." The man crosses his arms, matching your stance. "It will only take a few minutes to reach my office, and another minute or so for the procedure itself."
Out Of Game For each vial of blood taken beyond the first there will be a con save required.

The man nods, and begins walking with purpose up the hill toward both the Light Shrine and the Mages Guild. While walking you notice that there are three sets of footfalls. The Guildmaster's, yours and another set that carries much more weight behind each step. The third set also clicks with each step.
After a few minutes, the Guildmaster leads you onto the property of the Mages Guild. The building itself is a large perfectly round white sphere. There is a long cylinder sticking out of the roof at an angle. The sphere seems to be made from a single piece of stone, without a seem or join to be had.
As you approach the building you feel a tingle, and the hair on your arms and the back of your neck rises. The Guildmaster opens the door and gestures you inside. Inside, you’re greeted by a ten foot long hallway. There is a window set in the wall in front of you, and a door to the left and right near the window. A placard reads ‘Reception’ under the window. The man leads you into the area, and opens the door on the right side.
Following the Guildmaster, you pass by the window. Inside you see a Tiefling woman wearing a shirt so tight that her modest chest pops distractingly. You could see how men might be distracted enough that they might not notice the jet black horns sweeping back, and tapering to sharp points about eight inches later. She glances up as the pair of you approach, and says in a perky high pitched voice, “Good morning Guildmaster, Mistress.” As she says mistress, she gives you a little smile.
Inside the next room you find a neatly appointed office. Plush, overstuffed chairs sit in front of floor to ceiling bookshelves. A large polished oak desk, with a pair of sturdy oak chairs on one side and a larger leather chair on the other side. The Guildmaster gestures to one of the overstuffed chairs before walking behind his desk to collect the tools he requires. "How many vials am I allowed to collect?" You respond, "Three." and he sets to work collecting the blood with a strange collection of glass and metal tools. Once he finishes he stands and says, "Please remain seated for a few minutes, sometimes people get dizzy when that much blood is drawn." He returns his tools to his desk, and collects three small pouches that clink with the sound of coins. He offers them to you, and adds, "Thank you, feel free to stay here as long as you wish to recover. I have work to do elsewhere, so I'm afraid I must bid you farewell. I suggest that you do not touch anything." He gives you another smile, "Thanks again." Unless you stop him, he simply walks out of the room.

She follows behind observing silently a bit curious about third footsteps she could hear but deciding best not to question it. A faint blush appearing on her cheeks when the woman calls her mistress, she almost spoke to correct her but decided against it as she followed him to the room. Pocketing the coins once he was gone she waited a few minutes before standing up. Not used to having her blood drawn it was a bit of a strange sensation but she wasn't dizzy thankfully. The things in the room intrigued her but she had other things she needed to do and so she hurried out of the room and back down the hallway leaving the mages guild. Once outside she glanced around trying to catch her bearings once more before heading towards the temple, Hoping she hadn't missed her opportunity to speak with the high light bringer today. As she wanted to set her plan in motion quickly, so she could hopefully get to her captain before it was to late.

Finding your bearings is a simple matter, as the Mages Guild is across the street from the Light Shrine. They are the two most prominent buildings in the High District, though the Mages Guild seems awfully small for the amount of people you've heard are members. A receptionist behind glass and what, two doors? One of which leads to an office.
The Shrine is as resplendent as it always is, it's white seamless walls shining in the sun. You pass through the unguarded gate like you did last time and find a similar complement of four acolytes waiting to assist new arrivals. You recognize the portly Acolyte with the bushy beard from last time. Still wearing standard clerical vestments. "Welcome back. How can we be of assistance today?”

Giving a polite wave of greeting as she turns her attention to him instead of staring at the building. "Just here to speak with the high light bringer again, if he is not busy." she says simply as she smiles. This temple for all that she cursed and grumbled about Pelor was one of the only places she truly felt safe and at home. Having spent part of her childhood in another light shrine, though its splendor had not been as grand as this one. She glanced back at the acolyte hoping she hadn't missed anything important as her mind had wandered for a few moments.

The man smiles, “Come with me.” He begins to walk, taking the route you would expect to get back to the office where you met with the High Lightbringer before. “I don’t know if the High Lightbringer is free, but we will see shortly. Today is a beautiful day, but tonight is going to get a little rough so you might want to stay inside.”
When you arrive, the bearded fellow knocks on the door. The Lightbringer’s voice calls out, “Enter.” After the man returns, he says, “The High Lightbringer is ready for you. Have a great day.” Before heading off down the hall, likely back to his post by the gate.
When you enter, the Lightbringer offers you a seat, “Back so soon? Have you already brought your quarry to justice?”

Hearing his words of warning she nods simply and follows him to the office. Waiting patiently till she can enter, upon entering she takes the offered seat. " Actually no, I was hoping you could help me in gaining access to the building, so that I might find the information needed to save the children. Perhaps if I go as part of a welfare check or to spread the word of Pelor to the children, he will let me inside, though if things go bad I might need a place to hide the children so that no further harm comes to them." She says as she leans back in the seat, a bit more relaxed this time around with the high light bringer. "The sooner I can fulfill pelor's wishes the better, as I have other pressing matters to attend to." She said as she looked up at him.
