((No worries; I know that sometimes it's better to throw up a short post to keep things moving. The verbal exchanges have been fun, regardless.))
Advancing on your quarry as he tries to edge away, you see an opening, and immediately take advantage of it, plunging your sword through his shoulder - from your higher vantage point, you can see the tip of it stick out the other side of his body. As a touch of blood spurts against the wall behind him, the combined effect of blood loss and boot-to-head overcomes him, and the brute slumps to the ground, still breathing but unconscious.
Tangent : While all of this is going on outside of your visual range, the frightened woman creeps forward to look out at where the fight had started, her doe eyes wide. "Do you... think he's okay? I hope he's okay, I'd hate to think if he'd been hurt saving me from that monster.."

You certainly can take your attack - Haiwire's warning apparently got lost to your ears amid the blood-rush of battle, and your blade does strike true; The problem is, against whom? As you ready your blade for a final thrust, Haiwire steps in, pulling the soldier out of your way, since you proved willing to ignore his warning.
You have the choice, Wismer - if you want, you can pull your attack, and lose the standard action it took, or your can go through with your attack. We're on the "20" attack roll, which means you'll hit either the soldier *or* Haiwire; If you go through with the attack, you need to roll a d%. 1-25, you hit Haiwire. 26-100, you hit the soldier, and he'll be staggered (0 HP, able to move but barely) - but he'll be outside your attacking range with cover from Haiwire, and Haiwire's just apparently proven himself unwilling to fight this last soldier, so he'll be trying to make a run for it. I'll leave it up to you whether you want to abandon the attack, or if you want to risk harming your friend.
((Dave - your rolls were more than enough to grab the soldier, but tied in the "bull rush", backward though it may be to pull someone like that. I gave it to you because you had the larger modifier and because, confused though he might be, the soldier was willing to be moved out of the way of a blade, regardless. The only reason I'm doing this post this way rather than descriptive, by the way, is because it carries more rule content than usual, let me know if I wasn't clear, guys.))

Due to unforseen changes in the demise of these daisy's, I will take the safest route for both myself and my companions. Therefore I will pull the attack, the chance no matter how big or slim of hitting my friends is not one I am currently willing to take. I will turn to where I last saw the last target of my thirsty blade. If it is still mobile I will go after it as quickly as I can, still though maintaing a fair amount of care as I do not want to get ambushed by a retreating daisy.

There is currently two of the three soldiers on the ground in a heap of their own body parts, literally so for the one that Haiwire bisected. The one that dropped from your rapier is in one piece, but it's difficult to tell (without a heal check) whether he's dead, or just unconscious.
The third just got places switched with Haiwire, and now stands opposite your friend. Haiwire appears to be purposefully standing between you and your target, and has outright told you he won't gang up on one person with you. The soldier looks ready to bolt at any moment, but is, in his confusion, unsure of just how much he can get away with.
((I'm going to give you and Dave one, maybe two back-and-forth posts to sort out how you two will deal with this, roughly enough for one combat round. The soldier will be confused for the time being, but if you guys haven't sorted this out within that short bit of time, he'll bolt. I'm gonna put a deadline of.. probably Friday night on this for you, though with the current situation IRL with Dan, if more time is needed, I understand. I'll assume that's the case if I don't see Dan post by Friday.))

Dismounting Isis, Knox feels dependable ground beneath him and crouches beside his fell opponent. The shield strapped his left arm doesn't sit comfortably as gloved left comes to lay on the unconscious chest. "In your wisdom Amia, if this foolish man crosses you gaze, I humble request fair judgment."
Flat palm turns to strained fist gripping the injured brute. "Your coming with me. I will likely have questions for you." _________________________________ Untrained first aid: (8-1=)7

Moving him is not easy - his muscled figure weighs quite a bit, but with some struggling, you can get him moved to wherever you'd like him to be. Your first aid knowledge, unfortunately, is somewhat lacking, and while you do your best to ensure he won't die on your watch, you're not sure if the trail of blood droplets still issuing from his wounds mean that he'll bleed out, or not.
Where are you taking him? And how will you be keeping him?

Now that the combat is back to being fair, I will turn to face my opponent, and say, "I will give you one chance, and once chance only to surrender yourself to me. Life in the slave fields is better than death by my pole-arm. If you attempt to flee, I will destroy you. If you face me I will destroy you. Surrender is your only chance to survive."
In game terms I will ready an attack against the soldier. Attack (No PA) 20 Damage 11

The soldier looks conflicted for a moment, then finally shakes his head. "I can't afford to be captured!", he shouts, turning and feeling (withdraw action). Unfortunately for him, his gamble against your accuracy turns out to be a poor one, and your blade finds purchase deep in his back, the slash driving him to the ground. Blood bubbles up from the wound with each shallow breath the soldier takes.
After that short skirmish, you're left with the bodies of three soldiers laying on the dusty ground. By this point, you can see that much of the smoke that drew you here is starting to slow; Your hastily-requisitioned team of survivors has pulled a couple more people toward the center of town, and for the most part fires are burning down. Off toward the Volaes side of the town, you can hear a loud creak, followed by a crack, followed by the loud FWUMP! of a home collapsing on itself, sending a spray of embers into the air; You can only hope that if there had been anyone in that home, the now half-dozen strong team of "recruits" managed to get to them first.
Amidst all the wreckage, there seems to be just one home that appears to have gone unmolested; a two-story building, standing out amongst the others for being unusual in its height. The front door, however, stands open, as if someone had fled in haste
((Despite the group being scattered about the town, I'm going to go ahead and assume that all of you could see, from your various vantage points, everything I described there after the fall of the third soldier; It just makes things easier that way. =P ))

I am going to take a moment to check daisy number two, for both loot and to see if he has managed to survive my blade. If he has survived I will drag him back toward the center of this village after removing him of his weapons and valuables. If he didn't survive well just the valuables. Also I will loot anyone that was hostile to me on the way back to regroup with everyone else. Before checking out the mystery of how one lone building survived unscathed.

Once the soldiers are down, I slowly shake my head, and sigh, saying, "I warned you, foolish soldier. Kord lends strength to my weapon, you never stood a chance." I will check on the third soldier, assuming that the one I cut in half is dead. I pointedly ignore the soldier that I warned about destruction.
Once I've checked the soldier, I will hustle over to the womans house to tend to her fallen husband. When I knock on the door, I will unlock my well made guisarme, and adjust the weapon so that it is handle first. When the woman opens the door I will offer he the blade, so that she knows I mean her no harm. Regardless, I will say, "I'm sorry for the mess, the three soldiers that were attacking my friend refused to surrender."

Wismer and Haiwire : You establish that #2 is still breathing, the stabs from Wismer's rapier appearing to have missed any major organs. Stabilizing him so that he doesn't succumb to his wounds, you check his pockets, and find in a small bag attached to his belt a collection of silverware that clinks pleasantly against itself, looking like it was well cared for. You also find 1 gold, 2 silver, and 19 copper in the bag. Each of the soldiers also has a longsword and studded leather - one of the longswords has a notch taken out of the blade, and the leathers worn by the soldier Haiwire bisected would require a great deal of work to make usable again. If you look closely enough, you can see that #2 appears to have a gold tooth. Haiwire, the soldier you check (#1) has a similar bag, but he has grabbed hold of a collection of jewelry; Rings, earrings, and a couple of necklaces accompany 1 gold, 17 silver, and 2 copper in his bag. The bisected soldier was carrying a bottle of wine, which apparently broke when he hit the ground, and a decent load of coin - 9 platinum, 8 gold, 20 silver, and 15 copper.
After checking the pockets of the fallen, Wismer drags #2 back to the center of the village, where he meets up with Knox bearing the defeated brute, and Tangent/Petherton/young woman in the horse-drawn cart. Haiwire breaks off along the way, to attend to the other house, and is met at the door with a squeak of surprise at your blood-spattered armor. When you offer the woman your weapon, she takes it in a stunned manner, clearly unsure what to do with such an unwieldy object, and ends up setting it somewhere in the entry hall. "Please, uh.. please come in, I suppose. My husband is just through here..", she says, leading you to the common area, where you see her husband laid out on their couch, with what looks like a torn strip of clothing tied around his arm. Sending her to get clean cloths and a bucket of water, you check the wound, and see that it doesn't seem to be bleeding, though it's certainly deep, and will leave a nasty scar. Thinking back to the farm, you remember how your mother used to clean wounds like this carefully, making sure to keep from disturbing it and causing it to break open again - such wounds weren't uncommon, when convicts would get hold of one tool or another in an argument and strike at each other. You can tell that if the man moves around too much, the wound is likely to break open and start bleeding again (he's at 0 HP, and staggered).

I take a few minutes before I get started to remove the gore covered armour from my elbows down, and to wipe off anything that might drip off of me into the wounds I intend to clean out. Once I'm sure I won't further infect the man's wounds, I tend to him, taking the time to do a through job. "Your husband will live. I would suggest strict bed rest for at least a day, and light activity for a few more after that to give his wounds time to mend fully." After giving her my prognosis, I extend my hand, reflexively bypassing the handshake in favour of the warriors shake. When I notice, I shake my head, and say, "Sorry about that, the wrist shake shows the person you're greeting that you carry no hidden weapons. I suppose since both our sleeves are rolled up past the elbow, that that was unnecessary, but when you meet more warriors than not..." I let myself drift off feeling a bit sheepish explaining myself. "I need to get back to my companions, if you have need of assistance I've gathered your communities resources at the center of town." With that I re-equip my armour and gather my weapon, waiting until I'm outside before attaching the chains that lock it into my gauntleted fist.

The woman provides a washbasin for you to clean off the blood in - it makes the water useless for actually cleaning anything else, but that seems to matter little to her. She makes sure to provide you with any clean cloths and other such things you ask for, and under the circumstances, you couldn't ask for a better assistant. The husband, to his credit, makes little noise, answering any questions you might have in as few words as possible, and mostly gritting his teeth through the pain of having such a deep wound cleaned, giving you the impression of a man who's used to hard work and difficulty in his life.
The unusual handshake, when you're done, throws her off for a moment, and you get the feeling that if she's seen it, it's only been rarely. When you finish your sheepish explanation, she leans down, and kisses you on the cheek, saying, "Thank you, I don't know what I would have done if he'd been taken from me. Our town.. I don't know what we did to deserve this attack, but if we have any chance of survival, it'll be because of you and your friends. Go, make sure they're still safe.. and thank you again."

I smile when she kisses my cheek, and respond, "May Kord always lend you his strength in difficult times. I suspect your town was targeted because the Ciggas are to afraid to attack a guarded or fortified village. When I'm next in Vaeles, I will suggest that they send a complement of guards up here to train some of your men and otherwise help defend your village."
Turning back after I've locked my gauntleted fist, it dawns on me to ask another line of questions. Knocking again if she's not watching me leave, or simple asking if she is, "Have you seen any of the following people pass through here?" I go on to describe Granth, Balefire, Fade, Stiletto, Moonlighter, Solarian, Harry, Burly, Crow, Widow, Hoch, Xorex, and Srevel the criminals who escaped from my family slave farm.

After gathering up the loot and dragging the wounded back to the center of town, I will make sure that he is resting i such a manner that he doesnt' start bleeding again. Quickly turn and lend Knox a hand with bringing the brute to the rest of the group. "Did you leave anymore of them alive Knox?" If Knox has nymore bodies that need to be drug over here I will cheerfully help out. If not I will lend an havd to everyone there in any way that I can.

She had indeed left to tend to her husband, Haiwire, but hadn't gotten far from the door when you knock on it once more. She looks understandably anxious to get back to her husband, but listens while you describe each of the workers, frown growing deeper with each passing description. "I'm really sorry, but I haven't seen any of them. It was just the one man who came here, though, so.. I haven't really seen all that many of the attackers. Maybe one of them is around still?", she says, appearing sincerely hopeful that you can find some of the men and women you're tracking down. If you don't have any further questions, she once more goes to tend to her husband.
Wismer - the process of bringing back the two soldiers who appear to still be alive is a long one, as dragging a fully equipped soldier is not easy; long furrows are left in the dirt from where their shoes drag along, but after a time, you get both of them to the center of town, where a collection of bodies is forming. Several young men are bringing wounded from other parts of the city, and there's a young woman there tending to Elias - the man Haiwire knocked out not so long ago, who was later revealed to be the village medic. She has a medic's kit next to her, and appears to have at least a general idea how to use it, as she moves from Elias to one of the other wounded villagers, stepping over the body of the soldier with the slit throat to do so.

I nod, "It was a long shot, but sometimes those are the only shots one gets... Forgive me for pulling you away from your husband again. Be safe." With that I hustle toward the center of town, where I suspect the rest of my party, and any villager activity that I might need to deal with will be waiting.
(Please note that I didn't take anything, or even pay attention to the bodies being looted. I may have noticed something at random, but I was focused on other things. (I just rolled, apparently I was staring intently... Spot: nat 20-5 distracted = 15))

((That's okay, Dan hasn't officially recorded anything either. What he claims to have looted, however.. you'd have noticed the presence of certain things, namely coins of all denominations, jewelry, and silverware, but not necessarily how much, what quality, or how beaten up it is. Wismer is presumably busy stuffing his pockets with such things, though they won't actually be in there till he says what he's taking, and I see them on his sheet.))

Switching from pulling the brute by both his arms to holding only one arm, while passing the other to Wismer. "I only met the one. He was attacking the woman who is now with Mr. Petherton and Tangent. He should be unconscious. If he's conscious before we leave, I'd like to question him."

As Haiwire arrives at the center of town, Wismer and Knox are hauling the brutish soldier toward the growing pile of individuals. The number of wounded is significant, but it seems as though most of the worst was already here. While everyone congregates back at the center of town, you can see the young man that Haiwire deputized bringing back another wounded young man, who appears to have suffered a wound across his leg, making it difficult for him to walk - but decidedly better off than what many of the corpses here have suffered.
Wherever the Cigomentan soldier's bodies are left, the young woman who seems to have taken over the basic tending of wounds ignores them, instead taking care of the citizens; The look of disgust in her eyes any time she glances at the crests attached is clear for anyone to see. She mutters quietly to herself as she goes about her work, and anyone who listens closely to her can hear her chanting healer's sayings over and over, the same way one might do so in seeking to remember important details for a test.

Blatantly ignoring the looks I'm sure to get from the townsfolk, I begin to tend to the Cigga's wounds. First triage, I assess the crowd of bodies to see who needs to be stabilized first. Once every soldier is stable, I stand, not bothering to tend to their wounds further. When I stand I scan the crowd, making eye contact with anyone who dares to challenge my tending to the soldiers.
Clearing my throat, I raise my voice to be heard by all, "These men are criminals." I leave a brief pause so people can quiet down to hear what else I have to say, before continuing, "For the damage they have caused here they will pay dearly, many of them will pay with their lives. That however is not for you or I to decide. Please don't misunderstand my feelings on the subject, a bunch of filthy Ciggas beat and raped my Sister to death." I leave another pause here, both to let the gravity of what I just said sink in, and to get the seething rage boiling within me back under control.
"These men will be held here until my party and I return from saving a kidnapped farmer. When we get back we will take these men back to Vaeles with us to face justice in the form of execution and slavery." With the command issued to the crowd, I wait to see who will assume command of the village, and answer for them.

Perhaps opposite to what you expected, but no less polite, the townspeople actively make a point of ignoring you as you go about tending to the soldiers. Once or twice you hear the citizens whispering, it sounds like the annoyed grumblings of people who feel the Cigomentan soldiers should be left to die, that your efforts should be spent on the innocent townsfolk - perhaps understandable, given the situation. By the time you're done, the three Cigomentan soldiers still alive lay in a line, while the two dead soldiers are separate; one here, pushed aside and left on his own, separate from the bodies of the villagers, the other laying where it fell to your blade.
When you stand and begin your speech, you notice that many of them still refuse to look at you, but as you go on - and reveal certain aspects of your past - you win more people at least willing to hear you out. Uneasy murmurs pass through the crowd at the thought of holding these soldiers here, and you hear at least one person asking a friend why they shouldn't just pass judgement on them here. That person is shushed, however, by the young woman who was tending to the wounded, who steps forward to speak. "We will do as you say, and hold these criminals for three days. Our village has suffered a painful blow today, and we may have lost many of our Elders - only Elias is here, and he is certainly in no shape to make any decisions right now.", she says, her tone accusatory, but the words left unsaid.
"It will take us at least three days to make some sense of all this, to bury our dead, and to select new Elders from those that survived. If you make it back in that time, then we will allow you and your men to return to Vaeles with them. If you can't, then once Crickstock is back on its feet, we will give them a proper trial ourselves, and sentence them here, which will likely mean hanging for the damage they've done. You want to take responsibility for these men, so be it, but we don't have the means to hold them indefinitely."

"Understood." I say with a curt nod, "I will do what I can to speed things along, not for their sake." I say glancing over to the downed Ciggas, "But for this man's son." I add gesturing toward Mr. Petherton. "Can we offer you folk any further assistance before we continue on our way?" While waiting for a response, I gather with my party and begin preparations for departure.

After Haiwire is done, Knox takes one half step forward, "We understand your feelings, really we do, but if you take the enemy's life with little regard to morality. You risk your souls, and become them." Gloved left hand gestures to the Cigomentan soldiers. Following suit to departure preparations.

"You folks have already helped our village, by preventing any more damage than they'd already done. For that, we're in your debt. I'm not sure if there are any more soldiers around, but from what I've heard, it wasn't a large number that showed up - they simply used surprise, and the fact that we're mostly farmers, not soldiers, to their advantage. If only we knew why they attacked!", the woman shouts, allowing her frustration to vent. After a couple calming breaths, she continues, "We will give as much moral regard to these soldiers as we can, but the simple fact is, we didn't have the facilities to hold them, before they attacked. It's unfortunate, but it's the best we can do."

With everything settled here, and our party prepared to depart I climb into the wagon and sit poised to leap out after any hidden soldiers. If none are seen before we clear the village limits, I sit back down more comfortably, and unlock my weapon. I will spend the next couple hours of travel focused on cleaning my armour and weapon until they shine. Although the majority of the cleaning will have to wait until I remove the armour back in camp, I do whatever I can do now taking all the time needed to return the equipment to perfect condition.
