You’re aware that Clifton is a good two weeks or more travel to the east. This Trollish fellow clearly isn’t very good at geography. He does look strong enough to push the boulder away from the entrance to the cave you found by following the rotten posts. Maybe you could get him to move the thing?

she takes the offered hand and stands, carefully unfolding her large brown wings from her back and shaking the leaves free of them before tucking them back into place again and looking at him. Now completely awake but still none to sure about this man...or rather troll.... though she wasnt to sure if he was a troll cause she had only read about them in books a long time ago and she doubted he lived under a bridge... but maybe he ate goats. with a musical like giggle she glances up at him since he stands almost a foot taller than her.
"Here is there and there is here, but its not where you want to be so can here really be there then..... hmmm curious... come come help me" the last part is in a different voice almost as if mimicked before she wanders down the path that the worn down torches lead.

His hand is extremely rough with heavy chalices upon it (like he does lots of physical labor) his grip is quite strong as he pulls you to your feet. When you speak at him he gets an extremely confused look upon his face while you riddle bout here and there. He nods and asks "what is it you need My feathered friend?" while following you down the path where the torches lead. He reaches out and touches one of your feathers, not hard or rough but gently feeling the softness, while still following you.

"come come help me" she repeats as she continues down the path that is till he touches her feathers and she spins around, anger flashing in her eyes. "do not touch what isnt yours, whats mine is mine and is not to be touched, dont fly to close to the sun or you will get burned." she glares at him anger in her eyes before turning back around and continueing down the path putting enough distance between them that he cant touch her feathers again.

I am trying to pay attention to the entire area around me as we travel

The path comes to an end at a large stone outcropping. Trees grow out of the stone on every side. Looking closer you see a large boulder that is more round then the rest, and has less growth. It looks like it’s blocking some sort of cave. The forest here is eerily silent of natural sounds, no bird or bug noises at all. Given how lively the rest of the forest has been, this strikes you as very odd indeed.

"this is in the way, it blocks my path where the silence calls, dont you hear it, the silence calls and we must answer so come come help me." she says as she walks over to the boulder and tries to push it but it becomes very evident very quickly that she cant move the large boulder that is blocking the path.

"yes I have noticed that it is unusually quiet down here. It is kinda scary actually." I walk over to you while you are trying to move the rock. "not like that. Place your hands like this." He carefully takes each of your hands on just the right spots. "Now you push like this." He says while starting to push the rock aside. Then with the two of you pushing the rock slowly at first then a bit faster the rock moves aside, till the pathway ahead is open.
Stepping back so he isn't touching you anymore "See that is how it is done." turns towards the new path ahead of them. "why is it so quiet down here?" I ask while trying to see into the darkness.

Inside the cave isn’t cave like at all. All the walls are carved, then polished smooth. There are paintings on the walls, but it’s too dark to see what they depict. This cave has the feel of a temple. It’s pitch black beyond the first ten feet or so. The cave descends to the full extent of your vision.

she lets out a bird like squack of surprise at his touch but doesnt say much else till the rock is moved and the path is clear." a place long forgotten except by few, stories told but no one listens, foolish long ears never listen." she seems to be whispering to herself as she peers down into the hallway as if looking for traps.

The first ten feel look pretty clear of traps. Even the next thirty feet look pretty good beyond that, though honestly it’s hard to see in the dim light provided by the sun filtering through the leaves outside. Beyond that, you have no idea as it gets quite dark.

Reaching into my pack, I pull out a torch and light it up. Those long ears? he pauses for a moment while pondering her statement. then gets a look or realization upon his face. "the long ears usually just try and kill me." I say as I start to walk forwards while looking about the room. "well it looks like we know it's here now. Shall we take a look about? I would like to know why it is so quiet here. then well maybe get rid of some...." His voice trails off as he starts looking about. A moment later "well are you coming?"

With the light from the torch you can see that the path descends at an angle for the full sixty feet you can see. Along the walls are pillars that support the stonework. Between the pillars are depictions of Elves venerating a larger creature that also has Elven or Fae features. There are braziers set every thirty feet or so, but they are empty. Their fuel long since spent.

She follows along behind him pausing to study the pictures now and then before continuing down the path. "curiouser and curiouser, the long ears have forgotten or choose to forget while the magic dies, they dont know they will die with it." she says with a bit of a chuckle though its somewhere between musical and evil as she walks along.

"What have they forgotten? Why will they die as well? I do not understand stuff of magic, please explain." I ask while taking a closer look at the braziers.
Is there anything that is about than can be used as fuel? I am also paying closer attention to the elves.

The braziers only contain a bit of fine ash. Whatever fuel that was burning in there was never replaced, and just burned out completely. It would be easy enough to gather some fire making supplies from outside the cave in the forest and set up little fires in each of the braziers as you go. Say ten minutes of gathering for two hours of fire per brazier. There are two braziers that you can see so far.
Whether you use the torch for light, or light the braziers as you go the path continues for about ninety feet, then it pivots around and back on itself and heads back the way you came still descending. After about another ninety feet the edges of your light are revealing a chamber ahead.

"they forgot the magic silly troll, listen when i speak or you will be lost in the walls. the magic with in them dies and they die, they dont listen to the tales of old, but i do, i know the songs the stories, find the magic but keep it safe, the long ears don't deserve it." she said her voice getting quieter and quieter as she spoke as if she didnt want to be heard by the elves on the walls.

"I still don't get it, find the magic we shall then. First we are going to need better light, there is lots of wood outside I can gather quickly enough. these things will burn for several hours." As I start to head out something metallic finally breaks free from what is left of his shirt. It hits the ground with a TINGGGGGG. I quickly scoop it back up hoping it went unnoticed, face being a bit pinker than it was a moment ago. "Sorry bout that needless noise" then I turn head back out the nearby door and bring down the supplies needed to give us lots of light.

Whether Tawny follows Kosga or not, he heads back into the woods to collect some firewood for the first two braziers. Twenty minutes later he returns with his arms stacked with branches and twigs. Entering into the cave, you return to the first brazier and set a fire there. Moving to the next you set another. With both fires lit, this tunnel actually seems rather inviting. Especially compared to the looming darkness that you were facing before. When you reach the third brazier, your torch would light up the next brazier too.
Are you going back to collect more wood? Is Tawny going with you? (for expedience you will have to collect wood for the 90ft brazier, and then doubling back there are 2 more before you reach the mouth of the cave. That will be an additional half hour.)

Tawny follows him out and collects some branches as well, she seems off in her own little world, pausing occasionally as if listening but there is only silence before she follows him back inside with more branches. "ting goes the metal, ring goes the bell, silly little long ears hear no sound at all" she seems to be singing to herself though there is no tune really. ruffling the feathers on her wings before tucking them against her back as she looks around.

Listening to the tuneless music as I work on gathering up all the needed branches logs and twigs.
"there I think we should have enough for now." I say.
with as gentle of hands as possible I load up your arms with as much of the lightest material that you can carry before picking up the heavier stuff. Still trying to pay attention to the general area, you never know if someone is sneaking about... Once we are both loaded up, I start to head back down, making sure my new companion(god I should ask what her name is) able to carry her load ok.
Once back getting all of the braziers lit, should shed some light upon this place.

The forest around the two of you looks clear (that way you wanted to hear?) as you gather up the firewood. You head back down through the tunnel and light up each of the Braziers. With Tawny's help, it only took twenty five minutes total to get all five lit up. Now the two of you find yourself standing beside the last Brazier, looking at the mouth of the chamber at the edge of the brazier's light.

with a slight skip and a jump she heads towards the chamber, pausing just at the entrance to the chamber and looking back at him." well come along, its not time to play, magic must be saved, so the dieing stops." she mutters with a shake of her head as she looks back at the chamber and opens her senses checking for traps or anything hidden.

Glancing into the darkness, at first you see nothing at all. A then the light from Kosga’s torch begins to light up further and further into the room. From where you stand the room curves off, apparently the room is a large circle. There are pillars looming in the darkness, silently supporting the roof and the ground above that. There are yet more braziers worked into the base of each of the pillars, none lit. By your estimation the room is roughly a hundred and twenty feet across.

"Sigh looks like we will need a lot more supplies if we are to continue to not burn up all our own torches. Or should we just skip it and keep going? I can see in the dark to some extent." I ask while taking a look about the room. Still wondering what this magic is that is kept being referred to.
how far apart are the pillars(how many are thee that we can see)

The pillars are spaced roughly ten feet from the wall, and about ten feet apart from each other. You start to try and figure that out, but realize it would just be easier to count them. Another peculiarity catches your attention while you’re looking around the room. The middle forty feet of the chamber is a circular pool. In the center of the pool there is a tree that stands roughly twice your height Kosga. So far you’ve only ventured maybe five feet into the room, so you’re making some assumptions that things continue around the whole circle like they do where you can see.

with a humming giggle that sounds like a small birds call she turns and heads back up the path returning a bit later with some more branches and then stepping further into the room. not able to see beyond the torch lights but she carefully approaches the tree. " such a pretty tree, so sad it was forgotten, mothers should never be forgotten."she whispers as she fluffs her wings again.

Assuming Kosga comes with you to collect the firewood, it takes about five minutes to gather enough to light one of the pillar braziers. Between Kosga's torch and the brazier you can see five pillars in the room, and a little less than half the watery circle in the middle of the room. The tree is barely visible in the dim light. When Tawny whispers, the tree begins to creak and little ripples flow out from the center of the pool toward the edge where you now stand. Kosga remains near the entrance.

Hearing the tree creak etc. i become on guard. "Tawny? is that the magic you are talking about?" I start looking about for any signs of potential trouble. Anyone looking at him right now can tell he is very nervous and ready to strike out, weapon is in hand.

Her chirping musical giggle fills the air as she moves around the pool as she watches the ripples." hello mother, cry no more. you are not forgotten any more." comes her words as she moves around the pool while watching the tree.
